Another fantastic week in Badgers Class! We have had another busy and exciting week, and it has been lovely to see the children continuing to grow in confidence as they settle further into school life. We are so proud of how hard they are working and the enthusiasm they are showing towards their learning!
In Phonics, we have continued working hard on recognising and practising our sounds. The children are becoming increasingly confident in using their phonics knowledge when reading and writing, and it is wonderful to see the progress they are making. Please continue to practise sounds and tricky words at home whenever you can, as this really does make a difference!
In Drawing Club, we finished exploring the adventures of Captain Pugwash before moving on to a new story, A Dark, Dark Tale. The children really enjoyed this story and had lots of fun using their imaginations to talk about what might happen next. It has been lovely to see their creativity and confidence growing as they share their ideas and bring them to life through their drawings.
In Writing, our focus this week was on designing a dream vehicle! The children had some fantastic ideas and really enjoyed drawing their very own vehicles. We then had a go at labelling different parts of our vehicles, listening carefully for the initial sounds in words and using our phonics knowledge to help us. It was wonderful to see the children having a go at writing independently and becoming more confident in putting their sounds into practice.
In Maths, we have been busy exploring the numbers 1, 2 and 3, with a particular focus on recognising small quantities and subitising. This means being able to recognise how many objects there are without needing to count them one by one. The children have enjoyed taking part in lots of fun, practical activities to develop these skills. One of our favourites was matching butterfly dot cards, where the children had to find a friend with the same number of dots. It was lovely to see everyone getting involved and beginning to recognise different arrangements of 1, 2 and 3.
📚 Phonics and Reading at Home
Following Wednesday's Phonics Evening, all children should now have their Collins eBook login details stuck inside the front cover of their reading diaries.
These details give you access to the reading books we are using in school, which your child reads three times a week. We have already uploaded the books your child has read so far, so you can enjoy revisiting these together at home. These books are carefully matched to the phonics sounds the children have learned, so please encourage your child to have a go at reading them independently, offering support when needed.
You can access the Collins Hub here:

If you were unable to attend the Phonics Evening, there is lots of helpful guidance available online to support your child at home. The Little Wandle website includes useful videos and information about how we teach Phonics, how to pronounce the sounds correctly and how you can help your child with their reading and writing.
You can find these resources here:

If you have any issues accessing the links or have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Have a lovely weekend!
