We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

22.10.26- Year 1

Good evening, everyone!

Wow, what an amazing eight weeks it has been! The Owls have worked so hard, and I am incredibly proud of all they have achieved. It was wonderful to share their fantastic storytelling and book with you. Thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate their achievements. It was also lovely to catch up with you at parents’ evening!

Here’s a little update on our learning, along with some reminders and ideas for the half-term break

Maths - We have been focusing on addition and subtraction, exploring the symbols +, − and = and developing our understanding of their meaning. I have set home learning on EdShed Homework. Topmarks is also a fantastic free resource for fun maths games and number practice. I have attached a Maths worksheet for anyone who prefers paper-based activities. Please choose whichever option works best for your family.

Phonics and Tricky Words - We have been reviewing all the phonemes learned so far. Over half term, please practise the children’s tricky words, which can be difficult to sound out. These were sent home on Friday in the children’s reading book folders. Make learning fun by playing Snap, Memory Pairs or inventing your own games! You can also find helpful phonics and reading resources on the Little Wandle – Resources for Parents website.

Computing - The children have loved learning about Computing! We have explored the different parts of desktop and laptop computers and practised our mouse control and typing skills. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow.

✏️ Home Learning

Please find letter formation practice in your child’s reading folder to help develop their handwriting. Remember to access the Maths activities on EdShed Homework, or use the attached worksheet if you prefer to work on paper.

Reading - Please continue to read both your child’s school reading books and their eCollins book over half term. You can access eCollins here: eCollins Reading Login. Regular reading, even for a short time each day, helps build confidence, fluency and a love of books.

🏃 Important Reminders

  • PE days: Mondays and Fridays after half term.
  • PE bags: These should have come home today. Please wash the kit and check the contents before returning everything ready for the new half term.
  • Library day: Thursdays.

Thank you all for your continued support this half term. The children have worked incredibly hard, and it has been a joy to see their confidence, enthusiasm and independence grow.

I hope you all have a wonderful, restful half-term break filled with fun, family time and plenty of lovely stories! I look forward to welcoming the Owls back and hearing all about their adventures.

Have a lovely half term!
