We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 2

Year 2 - 17.01.2020

We have had a lovely week in year 2. In English we have continued to explore ‘Jim and the Beanstalk’ in more depth.  We have compared this story to ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, described the giant and written sentences from the giant’s point of view.

In maths we have finished looking at fractions, for now. The children are able to find ½ and ¼ of a shape and can explain that when half is when something is split into 2 equal parts and quarters is 4 equal parts.  We are also beginning to recognise that ½ is equivalent to 2/4. You could continue to explore this at home using pizza/cakes/apples/sandwiches, to reinforce this week’s learning. We have ended the week by exploring tally charts.  We have created our own and answered questions about different tally charts.

Letters about SAT’s workbooks have been sent home today.  They can be a great tool for building confidence and re-visiting certain areas of learning.  I will be holding a SAT’s information meeting in due course for more information about SAT’s about how we will approach them in May.

We are very excited about our trip to Southampton Art Gallery!  Letters about the trip have been sent home today.

I hope you have a great weekend – let’s hope it stays sunny!
