Year 2 - Home Learning 18.05.2020

Good evening

I hope you are all well and have enjoyed the weekend.  Please see below the home learning for tomorrow. I have also attached some additional handwriting, in case you need it.  It focuses on the year 2 spelling rules so may help reinforce some spellings too!

National Book Tokens are currently holding a competition for schools to win £5,000 worth of book tokens! This would be a fantastic opportunity for our school.  To enter our school all you need to do is click on the link below and nominate our school.  Every vote will help! https://www.nationalbooktokens.com/schools

Thank you for your support :-)

Have a lovely day.

Maths

45 mins

L.O: To use fact families

Example of a fact family:

2 + 3 = 5

3 + 2 = 5

5 – 2 = 3

5 – 3  = 2

You can also have the equals at the start of the number sentence:

5 = 2 + 3

5 = 3 + 2

2 = 5 – 3

3 = 5 – 2

Use lego or pasta to help you to complete the attached activities if needed.

Spelling

15 mins

Practise your spellings on Spelling Shed.

This week we will be looking at homophones or near homophones. They are words that sound the same but have different meanings and spellings. Near homophones have slightly different pronunciations. Read the words below and use them in a sentence.

Quiet        Quite

Bare          Bear

Sun           Son

Be             Bee

Night        Knight

Reading

15 mins

Read your reading book (or one from Oxford Owl).  Re-read any parts that don’t quite make sense.

Writing

30 mins

L.O: To describe.

What pets do you or your family members/friends have? Can you draw them and write to me to tell me what they are like? Describe how they look and what their character is like.  Are they bouncy, cuddly, playful or quiet? What do they like to eat?  Do they have toys? Write in full sentences. Remember – I have never met these pets, so you need to include lots of detail. You can do this by including expanded noun phrases, adverbs and conjunctions.

Geography

1 Hour

L.O: To know the seven continents

Listen to this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6DSMZ8b3LE It is very catchy and will help you learn the name of the continents.

We will be carrying on with our fact file today.

Today we will be looking at Asia – I have attached a PowerPoint with lots of facts about Asia and here is a link to a video:
