Reading books and keywords

Good evening - just a few helpful bits of information about reading books and keywords.

We have given all the children a reading book - they were very excited about this and I know lots of them have come home and shared them with you. Please record  in the reading record when you have read with them. You don't have to write anything if you don't want to, just sign and date it. You can also record things they have done well or found tricky and ask any questions too. We will try to hear the children read and change their books twice a week.

After Christmas we will start reading Ditty books with the children, so they will then have 2 books to share at home. The children have the same Ditty book for a week. We aim to read them in school 3 times per week.

The children are hopefully practising their keywords at home. The  5 words to practise are in the paperclip. When they show us they can securely read the word on sight (not sounding out), they will be given a new word. The words they know are then kept in an elastic band.  We would normally aim to check the children's keywords 3 times a week, but this is usually a task carried out by parent volunteers, whom we sadly do not have at the moment!

This is the perfect time to get into good habits with your child. Try and get into a routine of reading and doing keywords every night.

Please make sure your child's reading wallet and keywords are in their book bag everyday.
