Year 1 Blog- Friday 28th January

Year 1 Friday Blog

Dear Parents,

It has been another tremendously busy week in Year 1!

English

The children have written their non-chronological report about crocodiles. They were able to put their facts into sections and drew a picture of a crocodile with labels. They then edited their work and had a try on their own.

Maths

At the beginning of the week we carried on with our partitioning learning. The children partitioned numbers up to 10 using a part whole model. We then had a go at solving some one-step addition and subtraction word problems. The children learnt how to record their workings out in various ways.

Science

In science this week we continued our learning about animals. The children had a try at sorting their animals into different groups using their own criteria. For example; if they were mammal or not a mammal or carnivore or not a carnivore.

Guided Reading

This week we continued with our work on ‘The Snail and the Whale’ by Julia Donaldson. The children loved the story and this week wrote a speech bubble in the character of the snail.

R.E

We have been learning all about Holi- the festival of colour and why the Hindus celebrate it. We sequenced the story of Prahlad and the children drew a picture of what they thought Lord Vishnu looks like.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
