We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 2

Year 2 - 20.09.2018

We have had another great week in year two.  Last summer the children wrote their own acrostic poems about the seaside.  We have revisited the structure of acrostic poems and written our own about our current book ‘The Tear Thief’.  During the planning process the children came up with some fantastic vocabulary to use in our poems, for example ‘The Tear Thief floated elegantly from house to house’. We have paid careful attention to using our class success criteria to ensure we are including the required elements as well as using red pens to check/edit our work.

In maths we have continued looking at addition but moved from number bonds to adding two digit and one digit numbers.  The children have had access to a range of equipment and learnt some new strategies for addition.  I was very pleased with their effort and determination.  We have also applied our knowledge of addition to problem solving and reasoning tasks. We solved a particular problem as a class, focussing on how to tackle it in a systematic way.

Our Monday worship was focussed on believing in ourselves.  This lead to some great discussion during our class assembly and year 2 wrote a prayer to be read out to the whole school during Thursday’s signing assembly. They wrote:

Dear God

Thank you for always believing in us.  We thank you for all of the different things we can do like PE, singing, maths and English.  We will keep believing in ourselves when we think we can’t but we can.

Amen

Such lovely words from year 2.

I hope you all have a good weekend.
