We’ve had a fantastic and very busy week in Badger Class!
In Drawing Club, we set sail on an adventure with Captain Pugwash! The children loved hearing about the pirate’s adventures and used their imaginations to create their own drawings and story ideas. From treasure maps to pirate ships, their creativity really shone through. It’s been lovely to see how confidently they are beginning to express their ideas through drawing and storytelling.
In maths, we’ve been exploring simple repeating patterns. The children investigated simple and ABAB patterns using natural materials such as leaves, pinecones, conkers and sticks. They created some fantastic pattern sequences, paying close attention to shape, colour and texture. It was great to see them working so thoughtfully and independently during this task.
During our Understanding the World input, we started thinking about the question: “What makes me, me?” The children shared ideas about what makes them special — including their families, interests, favourite foods and what they enjoy most. We celebrated how each of us is unique, and how our differences make us who we are.
In music, we have been using the story Rosie’s Walk to explore how sound can help tell a story. The children came up with sound effects for each part of Rosie’s journey — including flapping wings, sneaky footsteps, and loud crashes! They used instruments, body percussion and their voices to build a soundscape that really brought the story to life.
Forest School with Miss Welton was a highlight this week. The children had a brilliant time outside, creating nature faces using conkers, pinecones, leaves and other natural materials. They also created some wonderful conker art and had plenty of fun experimenting in the mud kitchen. It’s always lovely to see the children so engaged and imaginative in the outdoor environment.
Following Tuesday’s Phonics Evening, all children should now have their Collins eBook login details stuck into the front page of their reading diaries. This gives you access to the reading books we are using in school, which your child reads three times a week. We have already uploaded the books your child has read so far. You can access the website here:

If you were unable to attend the phonics evening, there is lots of helpful guidance available online to help you support your child at home. The Little Wandle website includes videos and information about how we teach phonics, how to say the sounds correctly, and how you can help your child with reading and writing:

If there are any issues with the links, or you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Thank you for your continued support. We’ve had such a positive week and are very proud of how well the children are settling into school life. We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
