Year R

Friday 13th February 2026
We have had another wonderful and very busy week in Badgers Class as we come to the end of a fantastic half term!
In Drawing Club, we explored the story The Dragon Painter. The children were full of imagination and creativity, producing some fantastic dragon-inspired artwork.
This week, much of our learning has been centred around Chinese New Year. We have been learning about how it is celebrated and why it is such an important festival. The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in their own dragon dance, listening to traditional music and even trying out some instruments. Some children created beautiful Chinese New Year lanterns and lantern collages, while others practised writing Chinese numbers in our maths activities.
In maths, we have continued developing our understanding of odd and even numbers and have been practising doubling numbers up to 8. The children are becoming much more confident in explaining their thinking and are making great progress.
There was lots of wonderful imaginative play linked to our learning. Some children made “dumplings” in the mud kitchen and helped to sweep up afterwards in CNY fashion, showing great teamwork and responsibility.
We also had a lovely visit to the church café this week. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience – especially the delicious cake kindly made by the volunteers! We even had time for a fun game of bingo, which everyone loved.
It was also so lovely to see so many of you at Parents’ Evening. The children are making fantastic progress in their reading and phonics, and we are so proud of how hard they are working!
Thank you for another brilliant term. We hope you all have a very happy and restful half term – you certainly deserve it!
