We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year R

Friday 27th February 2026

The children have settled back in beautifully after the half-term break and have quickly got back into our busy Badgers Class routine!

In Drawing Club this week, we enjoyed exploring the story Billy and the Beast. The children loved discussing the characters and using their imaginations to create their own wonderful drawings inspired by the story. There were some fantastic ideas and great attention to detail.

Our writing focus has been based on Jasper’s Beanstalk by Nick Butterworth. The children have been working incredibly hard on their writing and have been practising retelling the story in their own words. We have been focusing on sentence structure, careful letter formation and using our phonics to help us spell independently. It has been lovely to see their confidence growing each day.

We were very lucky to have a glorious, sunny Forest School session on Tuesday with Miss Welton. The children used binoculars to spot different birds and carefully observed the early signs of spring. We noticed flowers beginning to bloom and talked about the changes happening in our environment. Some children chose to draw what they could see, while others enjoyed imaginative play in the mud kitchen. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore, create and develop our teamwork skills outdoors.

In maths, we have been exploring and comparing the length of different objects. The children have been using mathematical language such as longer, shorter and taller and have enjoyed practical activities measuring and ordering items by length.

In PE, we have been developing the children’s ball skills. We have been practising rolling, throwing and aiming, as well as learning how to control a ball with increasing coordination. The children are showing great determination and enthusiasm during these sessions.

It has been a fantastic start to the new half term and we are very proud of how hard the children are working.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
