We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year R

Friday 17th April 2026

Badgers have had a great first week back after the Easter break! It has been lovely to see the children return so enthusiastically, ready to learn and share their experiences. I have particularly enjoyed looking at the photos from the Easter reading challenge that have been sent in. Thank you for supporting this at home.

In Drawing Club this week, we explored The Odd Egg. The children thoroughly enjoyed drawing and discussing the story, and showed fantastic creativity when imagining what might hatch from their own unusual eggs. Their ideas were imaginative and varied, and it was wonderful to see them expressing these through both pictures and words.

In maths, we have started learning about 3D shapes. The children have been exploring different shapes, talking about their properties, and identifying them in the world around us. They have made a great start and are already beginning to use the correct mathematical vocabulary with increasing confidence.

In RE, we have begun thinking about the question: What has changed for you? The children have started to reflect on their own experiences, and we will continue to explore this theme further next week.

During Forest School with Miss Welton, the children enjoyed spending time outdoors, developing their teamwork and exploration skills.

In music, we listened to Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage by Felix Mendelssohn. The children did a fantastic job identifying the tempo and discussing how the music changed. They also listened carefully to spot different instruments, showing great focus and curiosity.

In PE, we have started practising for Sports Day, which the children are very excited about. They showed great energy and enthusiasm as they began developing the skills needed for the different events.

It has been a brilliant start to the term, and we are very proud of how well the children have settled back into school life.
