Year R

Friday 5th June 2026
It has been lovely to have Badgers back this week! I hope you all had a wonderful half term and enjoyed some well-earned rest.
In Drawing Club, The Giant Jam Sandwich has been a very popular story. I have loved seeing the children's creativity in their drawings and writing. Their writing has come such a long way this year, and it is fantastic to see the confidence they are developing.
In maths, we finished our learning on sharing and grouping, including exploring odd and even numbers through practical activities.
PE was great fun this week, with the children taking part in a variety of outdoor games. They worked hard on developing their resilience, teamwork and listening skills, while having lots of fun at the same time.
While I have been carrying out some preschool transition visits, the children have had the opportunity to spend some time with Year 6 in the mornings. They have enjoyed reading stories and playing games together, and it has been lovely to see these friendships developing across the school.
We have also received our new caterpillars! The children are very excited to look after them and observe the changes as they grow and eventually transform into butterflies. Next week, we will be linking this to our theme work and writing about The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
As we move closer to Year 1, it would be really helpful to start encouraging your child to walk into school independently from the gate where possible. This will help them prepare for the routines and expectations of Year 1 and build their confidence.
Thank you for your continued support. Have a lovely weekend!
