It’s hard to believe we are already at the end of our second week in Badgers Class! The children have settled in so well already, and it has been fantastic to see friendships beginning to form and the amazing progress the children are already making. We are so proud of them!

This week, the children have continued to explore their environment and have particularly enjoyed spending time outside in the water play, sand pit and mud kitchen. We have also been busy with lots of singing, sharing stories and listening to poems. A particular favourite this week has been listening to We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen, as well as enjoying his much-loved poem Chocolate Cake. The children have really enjoyed joining in, listening carefully and talking about the stories and poems.

We were also very pleased to welcome Claire from the church on Wednesday. Claire will be joining us every Wednesday, which the children are sure to enjoy!

Next week is another exciting one as we begin our first phonics sessions, where the children will start learning their first sounds. In Maths, we will be exploring matching and sorting, alongside lots of other exciting learning opportunities.

We will also be having our first PE session next week, which I know the children are really looking forward to! If you haven’t already, please make sure your child’s PE kit is in school ready for their first session.

Reading Books

Reading books and reading diaries have now been sent home.

When sharing books at home, it is lovely to talk with your child about the pictures and ask them questions about what they can see. As they begin learning their first sounds in phonics, you can also encourage them to spot any sounds or letters they recognise. This is a wonderful way to support their early reading skills and build their confidence.

If you have any questions about reading books or diaries, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Library Books

Our library session will now take place on Wednesdays.

Please make sure your child brings their library book back into school on Wednesday so that they can exchange it for a new one. Children will not be able to take a new library book home unless their previous book has been returned and scanned.

Reading Volunteers

Finally, if anyone — including relatives such as grandparents — would be interested in volunteering to read with the children, we would be incredibly grateful for your support.
