Friday 19th June – Year 1
Another fun but busy week in Year 1!
We hope that everyone is feeling much better now. We continue to remind the children how important it is to wash their hands after visiting the toilet and before eating.

Mrs Platt is the class teacher and Mrs Kitcher is our teaching assistant.

Good evening,
Year 1 have worked extremely hard this week and had a wonderful time at Lepe. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them. In fact, a member of the public commented on how well behaved the children were whilst visiting the café today, which was lovely to hear.
It has been lovely to welcome the children back after a sunny half-term. We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable break. Year 1 have settled back into school really well and have enjoyed sharing their holiday adventures with the class.
Wow — what a fantastic day! A massive well done to all of the children for their resilience, enthusiasm and teamwork, especially in such hot weather. We were so proud of how they supported one another and took part with such positivity throughout the day. Thank you also to all parents and carers for your encouragement and support — it really does mean so much. We are sure everyone had a wonderful time!
Please keep PE bags at home tonight as the children will not need them tomorrow. Instead, we are very excited for our special Pirate, Mermaid and Sea Creature Dress-Up Day! We cannot wait to enjoy some pirate-themed fun together.
The children have worked really hard this week, and it has been wonderful to see their growing confidence and enthusiasm. Thank you for all the photos and special items the children were able to share during RE. They sparked some lovely conversations, and it was especially meaningful to share real christening photos with the class. The children thoroughly enjoyed talking about them in front of everyone.
In RE, we have been discussing what the word “precious” means and thinking about the importance of water. We will continue this learning in our next lesson and, if possible, it would be lovely for the children to share photos of something that is precious to them. This could be a toy, animal, person, or anything else they feel is special.
We will also be discussing christenings and the importance of water during this occasion. If any of the children have been christened, this would be a great starting point for discussion. Please email any photos r.platt@brockenhurst-primary.hants.sch.uk for Thursday 14th May 2026.
Thank you for your continued support.
A fun and energised week as always!
In Maths, we have been recapping place value to 50. The children have been practising partitioning numbers, using a number line to 50, estimating, and finding one more and one less. We have been learning practically using the Dienes equipment to support our understanding. I have also set homework on EdShed to reinforce this learning at home.
Good evening,
We are delighted to welcome Miss Price, our student teacher, who will be with us until the end of June.
What a lovely week we’ve had—thankfully accompanied by some beautiful sunshine. The children thoroughly enjoyed practising their sports skills in preparation for Sports Day.
Good evening,
We’ve had another wonderful and busy week in Year 1!
Welcome Back!
It has been so lovely catching up with the children this week and hearing all about their Easter adventures.
A gentle reminder to please send in photos for the Easter Reading Challenge. Thank you to those who have already done so—we look forward to sharing these in worship and in class.
Welcome back, we hope you all had a lovely Easter break.
Thank you so much for all the photos of reading in unusual places. If you haven't already ready, please could you send a photo of your child reading in an unusual place of their choosing. r.platt@brockenhurst-primary.hants.sch.uk
What a short but busy half term it has been—from trips to planting, it’s been full of activity! Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Easter Service; it was such a lovely celebration. The children sang Spring Chicken brilliantly, and I especially loved their actions!
