Good afternoon,

In Phonics, we have learnt four new GPC’s; ir (first, bird, girl), ie (lie, cried, fried), ue (blue, rescue, argue), u (unit, tuna, music). We have also learnt new tricky words (words that can not be sounded out); here, today, one, their, people, oh, your. Please encourage your child to spot these in books.

Well done to all the children who are reading your most recent Little Wandle e-book, it is really supporting your phonics and reading skills. 

In English, we have been learning and practising ‘The Three Little Pigs’. The children have drawn excellent story maps to help them remember the beginning, middle and end. In a few weeks they will perform their stories to year R, using the puppets they have made in class. Children may like to practise and perform to you!

In Maths, we have continued to add, solve problems and using the part, part, whole method. Children are getting really good at grasping this concept.

Over the next few weeks, Mrs Langton will be joining us at various parts of the day to get to know the children and make those important relationships with the children.

Firstly I'd like to say a huge well done to all my wonderful owls for helping me with worship this week. This half term we have been discussing our school learning value 'Ambition'. Owls had some thoughtful ideas then presented to the whole school. 

Owls did so well, speaking loudly, clearly and confidently.  A huge well done.

This week in phonics we have been learning alternative digraphs (two letters one sound): oy/oi, ai/ay, ea/ee, ow,ou . A tricky concept for children to learn, but they have all tried  really hard. Please encourage your child to spot these when reading. Please see attachments for more details. 

Reminder-Phonics Evening-Tuesday 3rd October 6.30 in the hall. 

The reading rewards were a big hit on Thursday. This is a weekly reward so please keep encouraging your child to read. Little and is often the best. Please write in your child's reading record - if they have read their Little Wandle e-book or school book 3 times that week. 

In English, we started reading 'Oliver's Vegetables', a real favourite!  The children have been discussing where vegetables grow, if they have planted them and their favourite. The challenge this week was to write sentences and join ideas together by using the word 'and' 

In Maths, we have been focusing on the crocodile symbols for greater than (>) , less than (<) and equals to (=) , through practical games and playing with the symbols the children are beginning to grasp. 

P.E - A big plea, we are trying to encourage independence when getting changed for P.E. Please, if your child can not dress and undress themselves, encourage this at home and help them by dressing them in easy clothing on Monday and Tuesdays.

Dear Parents

We would like to invite all YR & Y1 parents to an information evening to explain the phonics scheme that we are using at school this year. Miss Prichard, Mrs Platt and Mrs Morris will be hosting the presentation on: Tuesday 3^rd October at 6.30pm in the school hall. Tea and coffee will be provided.

Year R and 1 Team 

Good afternoon, 

I am so impressed how well Year 1  continue to work hard, show resilience and learn new routines. 

This week we continue our learning journey 'The Queen's Hat' we have been talking about how stories have a beginning, middle and end. We have sequenced a different version of the story and used our phonics to write labels. The children use the grow the code mat to support reading and writing (please see attached).  

In Phonics we have been revisiting and reviewing our learning from year R, reading and applying digraphs (two letters one sound) and trigraphs (three letters one sound) in longer words. 

In Maths, we continue our learning of place value, working out missing numbers in a sequence and finding one more than a given number to 10. 

Home Work

* Maths fluency cards have been sent home this week, please practise so children are fluent in knowing the answers, children need to be able to say the answers quickly. 

* Little Wandle e-book - log on details can be found in your child's reading record and an information leaflet was sent home this week on how to access this.  Read at least once a week. 

* School reading book - Read daily

*Library book - share together

* Extra reading 'sora app' e-books - log on details in reading record. 

* Edshed activities will be set next week.
