Good evening, It’s been another busy and productive week in Year 1!
Good afternoon and welcome back!
How is it Summer 2 already, the year is flying by. It has been wonderful hearing all about the children’s half-term activities – it sounds like they all had a fantastic time!
Good afternoon everyone,
It was absolutely wonderful to be back with the children this week and to see how much they’ve grown and developed. They really are a credit to you all – so full of energy, kindness and curiosity.
It was also such a joy to see so many of you at Sports Day! What a fantastic afternoon we had, filled with sunshine, smiles and team spirit. Thank you so much for your continued support – it really does mean a lot.
Good afternoon everyone,
Today we enjoyed a run-through of Sports Day. It was a really great atmosphere and all the children enjoyed having a go at the different activities. There is more information about Sports Day on the Newsletter, which has gone out today.
Good afternoon everyone,
We have enjoyed another great week of learning in Year 1 and have been busy as usual!
In English, we have been learning how to write compound sentences using the conjunction ‘and’ to join simple sentences. We have also produced some fantastic pieces of descriptive writing based on the ‘Storm Whale.’ The children have been very independent with their writing and demonstrated that they can incorporate the skills they have already learnt, in their writing – well done!
In Maths, we have continued to focus on measuring capacity and volume and looking at different ways we can do this. We have also been comparing volume and capacity and using more than, less than or equal to in our learning. Home learning- https://www.edshed.com/en-gb/homework
In Phonics, we focused on sounds: oo (as in blue) or (chew) and yoo (as in argue) as well as or (as in claw). Tricky words – today, their, people, your, any. Home learning Little Wandle ebooks https://www.collinshub.co.uk/login/
In Geography, we have been looking rock pools and sorting which sea creatures would and would not survive in a rock pool. The children have also drawn some fantastic pictures of rock pools.
A reminder that our Library day is a Friday. This is when the children can browse the library and change their library books if they want to.
Have a lovely weekend and we will see you on Monday.
The Year 1 team
Hello,
On Monday 12th May, we will be planting runner beans in yogurt pots; this is part of our science topic, which is all about how plants grow. Please could you save any small see-through yogurt pots for planting. The pots need to be see-through because we plan to observe and monitor the seeds germinating once they have been planted in their pots.
I have already started saving some empty yogurt pots for those who don’t have see-through ones at home, so there should be plenty to go around!
Many thanks
Amy Burch
The sun has been shining for us all this week and the children have been enjoying playing on the field again at lunchtimes. A gentle reminder to please bring in a named hat now that the weather is warmer. It is also advisable to apply suncream in the mornings before school.
Good afternoon everyone! We have had a fantastic first week back in Year 1. The children have enjoyed sharing with us what they got up to over the Easter holidays.
