Year 1 - 2nd May 2025
The sun has been shining for us all this week and the children have been enjoying playing on the field again at lunchtimes. A gentle reminder to please bring in a named hat now that the weather is warmer. It is also advisable to apply suncream in the mornings before school.
In English, the children produced some lovely writing linked to our book, The Storm Whale. We have been learning how to write simple and expanded noun phrases. We have also looked at different determiners and how to include them in our writing. Attached is some handwriting sheets, if the children would like to practise.
In Maths, we have focusing on mass, volume and capacity. We have used mathematical terms such as heavier, lighter and equal to when comparing amounts. We have also completed practical activities when comparing the mass of different objects on a set of scales. For home learning please see edshed.
In Phonics, in Phonics we focused on sounds: ie (as in cried), i-e (as in ripe) as well as o (as in post) and o-e (as in home). Tricky words – were, one, says, here, today. This week's Little Wandle ebooks have been set, please read together.
In Science, we have been learning about the different parts of a plants and what the difference is between a bulb and a seed. The children were very knowledgeable about this topic already!
Jigsaw – In Jigsaw we have been looking at friendship and what makes a good friend.
