We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 1 - 20.06.25

Good afternoon,

Our highlight this week was the amazing scooter and bike competition held today in the sunshine! The atmosphere was fantastic, and we’d like to say a big thank you for all the wonderful effort that went into decorating the bikes and scooters — they looked brilliant!

In English, the children have been incredibly enthusiastic about creating warning posters for other pirates about the sea monster from The Pirate Cruncher text. They’re very excited for our dress-up day on Thursday 26th June – please refer to the previous blog post for more details.

Phonics:
Our focus sounds this week were: sh, ti, ssi, si, ci (e.g., potion, mission, mansion, delicious).
There are no new tricky words this week – instead, we’ll revisit previously learned tricky words, focusing on reading and spelling them confidently.

Maths:
We’ve been learning about finding quarters of an amount. This was a tricky concept, but the children worked really hard and made great progress. I’ve set some homework to help consolidate this learning.

Art and History:
We are continuing our topic on the Great Fire of London, discussing the outcomes of the fire and how things changed as a result. In Art, we’ve been using watercolour paints to create our own fiery scenes.

Please continue reading regularly at home to help build your child’s confidence and fluency.

Have a lovely weekend!
