Year 1 - 27th June 2025
What a fun-filled week we've had in Year 1!
Our highlight this week was definitely Pirate Day! The children had an amazing time dressing up as pirates and mermaids. We went on an exciting treasure hunt around the school grounds, solving clues and using maps to guide our way.
A big thank you for all the junk modelling materials you sent in! The children used them creatively to build pirate ships and accessories. It was a fantastic day full of imagination and hands-on learning
In Maths, we continued learning about finding quarters of amounts. This has been a bit tricky for many children, so we’ve attached some home learning activities to support this at home. Thank you for working with us to reinforce this learning.
In Phonics, we’ve been continuing to grow the code, exploring new and alternative spellings for sounds. Here are the sounds we’ve focused on this week; sh ,ch, ti, si, ssi, ci, le, i-e, a, si, (zh) aur, au, or. We have now learnt all our tricky words. Now focus on reading and spelling them correctly. Please see attached.
This week we had a special RE day following our RE cycle, where we learnt about Janmashtami, the birthday of Krishna. We explored how Hindus celebrate this special day and talked about the importance of remembering meaningful events in different religions.
We’re looking forward to seeing you at the Summer Fete! Have a lovely weekend!
