We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

17.10.25 - Year 1

Good Afternoon Parents,

Wow – what another busy and exciting week in Year One!

This week in English, we’ve been learning our Talk for Writing story – The Three Little Pigs. The children have enjoyed getting to know the characters and retelling the story with actions. We've been focusing on capital letters – what they look like, how to write them, and when to use them in our writing. We’ve also written labels for the characters and even created a special invitation to bring home – keep an eye out for it in their bags today!

In Maths, we’ve been exploring the part-part-whole model to help us add numbers together. We've also started writing number sentences and learning key vocabulary such as plus, add, more, altogether, and the number gets bigger. Homework has been set on Edshed to reinforce this learning at home.

In RE, we've had some thoughtful discussions about the Christian and Hindu creation stories, and the children shared some fantastic ideas about how the world may have been created. To build on this learning, we’re looking forward to Diwali Day on Monday, where children across Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will take part in fun, creative activities to celebrate this special festival.

Reading Reminder
Please continue to support reading at home – little and often really makes a difference. Your child’s new eBook has been set on the Collins eBook hub and is ready to read. Thank you to parents who have offered to listen to readers, we now have quite a few in Year 1, so if you can spare some time to help in other year groups then please let me or the office know. Thank you!

I look forward to seeing you at Parents' Evening next week to share how your child has settled into Year One and all the progress they’ve made so far.

Have a lovely weekend,

 Year 1 Team
