In Maths, we have been focusing on addition, exploring the symbols + and = and understanding the vocabulary and meaning behind them. The children have been making number bonds within 10, such as: 0 + 4 = 4 ,  1 + 3 =4 , 2 + 2 = 4, 3 + 1 = 4, 4 + 0 = 4 I have set some home learning on https://www.edshed.com/en-gb/menu  and Topmarks is a great resource that is free to use and will help reinforce number skills.

In Phonics, we’ve been reviewing all of the phonemes we’ve learned so far. One area that will really help the children is practicing reading their tricky words (words that can’t be sounded out easily).  To make this fun, we’ve been playing games like Snap and Memory Pairs, which the children absolutely love. You’ll find all the tricky words sent home on Friday in their reading book folder – please take a moment to check. If your child can already read all of the tricky words from memory then work on spelling them. 

The children have been so enthusiastic about learning Computing! We’ve explored the different parts of a desktop and laptop and worked on mouse skills and typing. It’s been exciting to see them develop their skills.

Updates:

• Forest School: After a lot of planning, I can now confirm that Year 1’s Forest School sessions will begin after February half-term. The children will be split into two groups to ensure a high-quality experience for everyone. I will update you closer to the time about which group your child will be in.
• Ecollins Books: Please make use of the Ecollins Books resource. These books are specially selected to match your child’s reading level. The login details can be found at the front of your child’s reading diary. Please note, the username and password are different from last year. https://www.collinshub.co.uk/login/
