We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

27.11.25- Year 1

Good evening,

What an amazing week it has been! The children have worked incredibly hard in their English lessons, and I have been so impressed by their creativity and writing skills. Well done, Year 1! I can’t wait to start our new text next week.

English: Next week, we will be diving into a new text, and the children will be exploring a range of activities based around it. To get ready for our English lessons, could you please send in a photo of your child with their favourite toy? You can either print it out or email it to me directly. (r.platt@brockenhurst-primary.hants.sch.uk) It would be wonderful if you could ask your child why they have chosen that particular toy and how they would describe it. This will tie into our lessons and help us build some fantastic vocabulary and descriptive skills. If you could make sure I have these by Monday 1st December.  Thank you

Phonics Focus: This week in phonics, we have been working on the following sounds: /ee/ as in e-e (these) /oo/ as in ew (chew, new) /ee/ as in ie (shield) /or/ as in aw (claw) Tricky words to focus on: house, mouse, water, want Please continue practising these at home to reinforce their learning!

Reading: I’ve also set new reading books on the eCollins Hub. These are a fantastic resource and are tailored to your child’s current phonics knowledge. New books will be available every Friday, so be sure to check in each week for fresh titles that match their learning progress.

In Maths, we have been continuing our work with the part-part-whole model for subtraction and exploring number fact families. It’s wonderful to see how the children are grasping these concepts! Additionally, I’ve set some EdShed home learning to reinforce these skills, and you can find further activities in the attachment to this blog. Please encourage your child to complete their tasks.

Nativity Costume Reminder: If you haven’t yet sent in your child’s nativity costume, please do so as soon as possible. We will be practising in our costumes next week, and the children are so excited to perform for you! Our nativity performance will be held at St. Saviour's Church on Wednesday 10th December at 2pm and Thursday 11th December at 6:30pm. We can’t wait to see you there!

I hope many of you will be able to join us for the Winter Wonderland event tomorrow. It will be a magical experience, and we look forward to seeing you there.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend ahead!
