22.01.26 - Year 1

We have had a more positive week in Year 1. The children have been reflecting on the choices they make and were proud to earn the rest of their class reward Pom Poms in the Jar. As a class, they chose a film and popcorn – well done everyone!
In Maths, we have been consolidating place value by matching images to digits, ordering numbers, counting accurately to 20, and finding one more and one less than numbers to 10 and 20. One more and one less has been tricky for many children, so quick-fire questions at home would really support their understanding. EdShed home learning has been set as usual – thank you for your support.
In English, we have continued learning about adjectives, verbally saying our sentences before writing them.
Phonics - /l/ – le, al (apple, metal) , /s/ – c (ice) , /v/ – ve (give)
Tricky words: school, call, different
Tricky words cannot be sounded out and need to be learnt by sight. Please practise these at home using games or flashcards. Once children can read them, the expectation is that they can spell them from memory.
Science
The children loved learning about birds, discussing their features and which birds can and cannot fly. Some even chose to continue their learning during playtime by carrying out their own bird watch. A bird-watching sheet has been attached for home learning if you wish.
As always, thank you for your continued help and support – it is very much appreciated.
