Year 1 - 5.2.26

Exciting news this week!
We received a letter from the Natural Museum explaining how to care for our special egg, along with diaries to record its development. After carefully following the instructions and placing the egg in water, it began to hatch on Thursday. It has been very exciting for the children to observe this process.
In Maths, we have continued learning about place value to 20. We have also been counting to 100 and recognising patterns on 100 square. We have been using splat square, https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/paint-the-squares The children are becoming more confident when reasoning about which number is the largest, using their understanding of tens and ones. Home learning has been set on EdShed.
In Science, we have been learning about animal groups. So far, we have explored mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians. If your child would like to share a photo of a pet, please email it to r.platt@brockenhurst-primary.hants.sch.uk We will enjoy showing and talking about them in class.
In Phonics, we have reviewed all previously learnt sounds and practised our tricky words. Please continue to read little and often at home. E-books have been set for this week.
Forest School Update
Forest School sessions will begin after half-term. The children will be split into two groups. A slip will be sent home in your child’s reading wallet soon, so please look out for this. Your child will need named waterproofs, Wellington boots and a warm coat.
I look forward to seeing you next week for parents’ evening.
As always, thank you for your continued support.
