13.3.26 - Year 1

The children had an amazing time at Forest School this week, splashing in the mud, making dens and embracing nature – even in the rain! It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm for exploring the outdoors. If your child has accidentally taken their Forest School kit home, please make sure it is returned to school in time for their next session.
In phonics, we have been learning:
- /or/ as in water
- Schwa in longer words such as different
- /o/ as in want
- /air/ spelt ear, ere, bear, there
For tricky words, we have been recapping all the words we have learnt so far. Please continue practising these at home, as they really help to build fluency in the children’s reading. If your child can already read them confidently, you could practise spelling them as an extra challenge.
The children have also created some lovely bespoke cards this week. Please remind them to take them out of their reading folders on Sunday!
In history, the children continue to be very enthusiastic about learning about Neil Armstrong. We used different sources to find out what happened during the moon landing and used this information to draw our own moon landing pictures.
In science, we went on a lovely spring walk around the school grounds. The children enjoyed spotting lots of different signs that spring is arriving.
Finally, if you have an up-to-date DBS, enjoy gardening and are available on Friday morning, we would love some help with planting. Please let me know if you are available.
Have a lovely weekend!
