We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

17.4.26 - Year 1

Welcome Back!

It has been so lovely catching up with the children this week and hearing all about their Easter adventures.

A gentle reminder to please send in photos for the Easter Reading Challenge. Thank you to those who have already done so—we look forward to sharing these in worship and in class.

In Phonics, we have been recapping all the sounds and tricky words learned so far. Please continue to read little and often with your child so they can confidently apply these sounds when reading. The children have also really enjoyed playing PhonicsPlay – Phase 5 this week, which is a fantastic free resource you can use at home: https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/

eCollins books have also been set for this week.

In Maths, we have been revisiting counting on from a given number when adding, and counting back when subtracting. We have also been practising number bonds to 10, which the children are becoming very confident with. We are now beginning to use this knowledge to learn number bonds to 20. Please keep practising these at home—children should know them fluently by the end of Year 1.

Hit the Button is another great game to support this learning:

In English, we have been reading The Boy Who Sailed Around the World, based on a true story. The children have been thinking carefully about the boy’s feelings at different points in his adventure and writing about them. I have been really impressed with their positive “can-do” attitude—well done, Owls!

Reminder
Please can toys from home stay at home to ensure they do not get lost or damaged.

As always, thank you for your continued support.
