We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Thursday 7th May 2026- Year 1

A fun and energised week as always!

In Maths, we have been recapping place value to 50. The children have been practising partitioning numbers, using a number line to 50, estimating, and finding one more and one less. We have been learning practically using the Dienes equipment to support our understanding. I have also set homework on EdShed to reinforce this learning at home.

In English, we started our exciting new text, The Pirate Cruncher. The children have been making predictions about what may happen in the story, designing their own monsters, and thinking carefully about the character of Captain Purplebeard.

In RE, we have been discussing what the word “precious” means and thinking about the importance of water. We will continue this learning in our next lesson and, if possible, it would be lovely for the children to share photos of something that is precious to them. This could be a toy, animal, person, or anything else they feel is special. We will also be discussing christenings and the importance of water during this occasion. If any of the children have been christened, this would be a great starting point for discussion. Please email any photos to me at r.platt@brockenhurst-primary.hants.sch.uk

In Science and during Picture News Worship, we have been thinking about how to look after our world, particularly our beaches. We have also been talking about David Attenborough turning 100 and the important work he has done to help protect our planet.

Please continue reading regularly at home and practising phonics in particular split digraphs (ar – car, au – author, a-e make, o-e woke, e-e these, i-e time, u-e cube). There are also some great games on edshed for phonics.

Thank you for your continued support.
