Friday 15th May – Year 1

The children have worked really hard this week, and it has been wonderful to see their growing confidence and enthusiasm. Thank you for all the photos and special items the children were able to share during RE. They sparked some lovely conversations, and it was especially meaningful to share real christening photos with the class. The children thoroughly enjoyed talking about them in front of everyone.
In English this week, we have continued reading our text, The Pirate Cruncher. We have been recapping the suffixes -ing, -ed, -est and -er. I wonder if the children can continue spotting these when reading at home. We also explored different types of words while writing descriptions of pirate ship and sea scenes. The children carefully thought about adjectives, nouns and verbs to make their writing more exciting.
A big well done as well for all the reading being done at home — we can really see the children’s confidence growing. Please continue to read regularly at home, as little and often is always best and makes such a difference. ebooks have just been set. Enjoy.
In Maths, we have been learning to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. The children have shown great enthusiasm and are beginning to become much more confident with this. Continuing to practise these at home will really help to build their mathematical fluency, along with regular practice of their fluency cards. Thank you for your continued support with this. Ed shed homework has just been set and attached activities if you would prefer.
We are really looking forward to seeing you all next week at Sports Day. Just a little reminder, although I’m sure some children will not let you forget our Pirate and Mermaid Day will take place next Friday 22nd May. Also, please return signed Lepe permission forms in readiness for our school trip next half-term.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
