Wow — what a fantastic day! A massive well done to all of the children for their resilience, enthusiasm and teamwork, especially in such hot weather. We were so proud of how they supported one another and took part with such positivity throughout the day. Thank you also to all parents and carers for your encouragement and support — it really does mean so much. We are sure everyone had a wonderful time!
Please keep PE bags at home tonight as the children will not need them tomorrow. Instead, we are very excited for our special Pirate, Mermaid and Sea Creature Dress-Up Day! We cannot wait to enjoy some pirate-themed fun together.
Finally, Year 1 will take part in the National Phonics Screening Check during June. This is a short, informal one-to-one check with teachers to see how well children are developing their phonics and early reading skills. The children will read a mixture of real and made-up words, helping us understand how confidently they can use their phonics knowledge independently.
The check is designed to be relaxed and positive, and most children simply see it as another reading activity. We will share your child’s result with you at the end of the school year and continue supporting every child in becoming a confident, enthusiastic reader. Please see the attached information for further details.
Over half-term, we will also be sending home some additional phonics homework. This is designed to be completed little and often to help continue building your child’s confidence and fluency. Please encourage your child to write sound buttons and underline digraphs when reading. We have attached an example and a 'Grow the Code' mat to support this at home.
