Thursday 4th June – Year 1

It has been lovely to welcome the children back after a sunny half-term. We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable break. Year 1 have settled back into school really well and have enjoyed sharing their holiday adventures with the class.
In Maths, we have been learning about fractions, focusing on halves and quarters. The children have explored these through both shapes and objects, as well as quantities, building their understanding in practical and visual ways.
In English, we have started our new text, The Storm Whale. This has been very fitting given the changeable weather this week! The children have been thinking carefully about the characters and setting, and have begun retelling and rewriting the story in their own words.
Phonics continues to be a very important part of our daily learning. We are focusing on spotting digraphs and trigraphs. This weekend, I will be sending home additional phonics homework. Please continue to support your child by encouraging them to add sound buttons, underline digraphs and trigraphs, and then read and blend the sounds. Well done to all those children who completed their half-term home learning, we were very impressed!
A reminder that our Lepe trip is on Thursday 11th June. Please ensure your child has the following:
- Comfortable shorts or trousers
- Hat and sun cream (applied before school)
- Trainers with good grip
- Packed lunch (school or home)
- School jumper or cardigan with logo
- Bottle of water
- Waterproof jacket
- Named backpack
Thank you for your continued support. Have a lovely weekend.
