Friday 19th June – Year 1

Another fun but busy week in Year 1!
We hope that everyone is feeling much better now. We continue to remind the children how important it is to wash their hands after visiting the toilet and before eating.
In Science, we recapped our learning about the seasons and discussed the season we are currently in, exploring the changes that occur at this time of year. We also shared our favourite things to do during the summer and talked about places we enjoy visiting with our families. We then took our learning outdoors for the afternoon, where we enjoyed spotting signs of summer in our environment. The children observed seasonal changes around the school grounds and used their observations to create beautiful summer-themed drawings. It was a lovely afternoon of outdoor learning, discussion and creativity.
During English, the children produced some wonderful writing about our trip to Lepe and wrote fantastic recounts using time connectives and sequencing words.
Maths, we have been solving lots of problems and developing our reasoning skills. Edshed homework has been set and attached is some extra home learning to support. In History and Art, we have continued learning about the Great Fire of London, and we are also enjoying learning a great song linked to our topic.
Very soon, we will be starting our Design and Technology project. To help us facilitate this learning and ensure all children have an enriched experience, we kindly ask for a small contribution. You will receive a letter with further details very soon. If you are able to make a payment via SCOPAY, we would be very grateful.
Please note that a number of children have been bringing toys and fidget toys into school from home. We kindly ask that toys are not brought into school unless this has been discussed with me or a member of the Year 1 team beforehand.
Children are welcome to bring a small toy that fits comfortably in their hand for Golden Time on Fridays. However, we do remind the children that they are responsible for looking after any items they bring into school, as we cannot guarantee their safekeeping.
Thank you for your support and understanding.
Have a lovely weekend.
