What a Super Week in Year 1!
We’ve had another super week in Year 1! One of the highlights was exploring taste buds in Science. The children loved learning about how we taste different flavours and had lots of fun tasting a variety of foods. It was wonderful to see their excitement and curiosity!
This week, we’ve also been learning the story of The Three Little Pigs. The children have enjoyed creating their own story maps and learning the story through actions — it’s been great fun! We’d love to invite you to share their storytelling with you on Thursday 22nd October at 2:30pm in the hall. We hope to see you there!
In Maths, we’ve been learning about number bonds to 5 and 10. The children have been making number bonds using Numicon and cubes before practising writing their own number sentences. We will continue to practise using the + and = symbols.
This week in Phonics, we’ve introduced the following new digraphs: ay — as in say, play, ou — as in sound, found , oy — as in boy, joy, ea — as in read, teach. We continue to revisit all tricky words from year R – please see attached. Please play games and spot them in books. If your child can already read them – please practise spelling them using letter names.
A reminder that our Phonics Evening will take place on Wednesday 14th October at 6pm in Year 3. We’ll be sharing how we teach phonics and reading in Year 1, as well as giving you some helpful tips on how you can support your child at home. We hope many of you can join us!
Apologies the books have only been changed today, due to staff illness.
Wishing you all a restful weekend.
