& Pre-School

We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

8.10.26- Year 1

Good evening everyone,

Firstly, I would like to say what an absolute pleasure it was to take your children on their local walk around Brockenhurst as part of our Geography learning. They were impeccably behaved, listened carefully and were alert to their surroundings throughout the walk.

Two of our Governors also came along to help, and they commented on how polite and well-mannered the whole class were. When we go out of school, it is always important to us that the children represent our school in the best possible way. You should be very proud of them, as we certainly are!

Book Changes > Please note that book changes will take place tomorrow. We have been short-staffed this week, so I will make sure books are changed tomorrow so that the children have a new book to enjoy over the weekend.

Christmas Cards > Your child will come home with a Christmas card design tomorrow (Friday 9th October). Please read the accompanying leaflet carefully and follow the instructions if you would like to order personalised, printed Christmas cards. This is a lovely initiative for schools, as it also helps to raise money for our school.

Maths > In Maths this week, we have been learning number bonds to 10 and practising adding numbers together using cubes, the part-part-whole model and tens frames. We have also been focusing on mathematical vocabulary, including add, adding, plus and equals, altogether  and practising using mathematical symbols when writing number sentences.

English > In English, we have continued to write about The Three Little Pigs and create our own sentences. I have been amazed by the number of children who have been inspired to write their own versions of the story at home. They have been absolutely lovely to read and share!

Art Homework > As we come to the end of our Art unit, we are creating natural animals. For this week's homework, please go on an autumn walk and collect some interesting, naturally fallen materials that could be used to create an animal. This could include interestingly shaped leaves, sycamore seeds and anything else you think might work well. Please see the attached photographs for some inspiration. The children have had fun designing them this week!

Have a lovely weekend, and I look forward to seeing many of you at our Phonics Evening next Wednesday, 14th October at 6pm in Year 3.
