Year 2

Friday 9th January 2026
We have had a very busy start to the New Year in Year 2.
I want to start by saying a huge well done to the children for their bravery and resilience at their swimming lesson this afternoon. Everyone got into the water and tried their very best. I was so proud of them and I have no doubt that their confidence will grow and grow as the weeks go on.
They also all got changed independently in a very short space of time, which for how little they are and, on a Friday afternoon, I thought was really fantastic. However, tights and socks proved very difficult to get changed back into after the swimming lesson. It would be so helpful if they could have leggings instead of tights or spare socks to wear.
In English, we have started reading the book 'Tidy' by Emily Gravett. This links well to our Guided Reading text this week 'Litterbugs' by Simon Chadwick, a book based on the New Forest. The children have been exploring both books, thinking about the messages the authors are trying to convey. Today, Year 2 made excellent posters to encourage people to look after the New Forest.
In maths, we have been learning about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. Next week, we are moving on to money.
I hope you have a lovely weekend,
Miss Prichard
