We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 2

Friday 27th February 2026

I hope you all had a lovely and restful half term break. It was wonderful to see the children back in school this week, refreshed and ready to learn. I am also very glad to be back with the class after being off unwell. It’s been so nice to return and see all of their smiling faces!

This week, we have started our exciting new text, The Big Book of the Blue. The children have already been captivated by the beautiful illustrations and fascinating facts about ocean life. We began by exploring our first impressions of the book, discussing the features and how it captures the audience’s attention. I’m looking forward to seeing how this inspires their non-fiction writing over the coming weeks.

In Maths, we have started learning about measuring lengths and heights. The children have been using rulers and metre sticks to measure objects around the classroom, thinking carefully about using centimetres and metres correctly. We have also been comparing different lengths and heights, using vocabulary such as longer, shorter, taller, and shorter than. It has been wonderful to see them applying their practical measuring skills so confidently. They have shown real confidence in this area.

In history, we have started a new unit learning about Great Explorers, starting with Ranulph Fiennes. I know Year 2 will really enjoy this area of learning.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Prichard
