Year 2

Friday 1st May 2026
Year 2 have written some excellent stories this week, based on the book ‘Pattan’s Pumpkin’. They spent all afternoon working hard to publish and illustrate them. They are absolutely wonderful and I am so proud of all the children for their hard work and fab ideas.
In history this week, we welcomed Jenny Simpson into Year 2 to talk to us about the history of our school. She walked us around the school where she pointed out what had changed and told us stories about the school in the past. Year 2 particularly liked the story about how children who were misbehaving had to stand under a ‘dreaded clock’ outside the headmaster’s office! The children asked fantastic questions, and it was so interesting to listen to Jenny and all of her local knowledge.
We have started our new DT project this week, which the children are very excited about! We will be making explorer vehicles, using wheels and axles, the week after next. I have asked Year 2 to bring in any recycling that they want to use for their vehicle. Cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, egg boxes etc would be great. If they could start bringing it in next week so we are all prepared, that would be much appreciated. Thank you.
In maths, we have been learning about fractions. The children have got a good understanding of this topic but extra consolidation by completing EdShed homework would be very useful for them. Next week, we will be moving on to telling the time. If your child has an analogue watch that they would like to wear to school to support them with this, that would be great.
Have a lovely long weekend!
