Welcome Back to Year 2!

What a fantastic start to the new school year! We have only been back for two days, but we have already managed to fit a lot in. It has been lovely getting to know the children and seeing them settle into their new routines.

This term in English, we will be focusing on the beautiful book Follow Me, Little Fox by Camila Correa. The story will give us lots of inspiration for our writing as we explore the characters, their feelings and their adventures.

In Maths, we are beginning with place value. We will be developing our understanding of numbers by counting in tens, representing numbers in different ways and using practical equipment to help us see how numbers are made up.

In Geography, we will be exploring the polar regions, finding out where they are, what they are like and learning more about the animals and people that live in these fascinating parts of the world.

In Science, we are learning about animals, including humans. We will explore the different animal groups — mammals, birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles — and learn how we can identify and classify them by their features.

In Art, we will be taking inspiration from the wonderful illustrations of Catherine Rayner, exploring colour mixing and different artistic techniques before creating our own artwork inspired by animals from colder climates.

In PE, we will be developing our teamwork skills through lots of active games and challenges, learning how to communicate, cooperate, solve problems and support one another.

We have an exciting and busy term ahead of us, and I am really looking forward to seeing what the children achieve. They have already made a brilliant start to Year 2!
