We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

17/09/26 - Year 2 Week 3 Blog

A Wonderful, Creative Week in Year 2!

Please take a look at the photos of all the wonderful creative work we have been doing this week!

In Maths, we have been getting used to using Cuisenaire rods. Before using them for our maths learning, the children needed some time to explore and play with this new resource. Their challenge was to use the rods to create a crocodile! The results were so imaginative and creative that I had to take some photos to share with you.

In English, we have been focusing on questions and learning how to ask and write them correctly. We now know that a good question needs a question word and a question mark (?) at the end. The children have enjoyed coming up with their own questions and putting their new skills into practice.

In Science, our focus this week was birds. We went on a bird-spotting walk and managed to identify four different types of birds. Back in the classroom, we thought about why birds have different shaped beaks. We used clothes pegs, spoons and tweezers to mimic different bird beaks and took part in a pick-up challenge to see which worked best for different objects. We concluded that birds have different beaks because their beaks are suited to different jobs and different types of food.

In geography, we created homes to survive in Antarctica to help our penguin, Pip survive. You can see from the range of resources and the creativity that Pip would possibly survive!

All in all, it has been a wonderful, creative and hands-on week in Year 2. It has been lovely to see the children exploring, experimenting and enjoying their learning. Have a look through the photos to see some of their fantastic work!
