These are some of our finished coin purses. They were challenging, but the children were determined to get them finished.

    This Week

Maths: we have been adding and subtracting tens and hundreds. These lessons have been practical, using place value coins and denies.

English: we have understood the importance of verbs in sentences.

Guided Reading: We have been reading the comic, Hilda and the Troll. The children have unpicked some tricky words by reading around them in the sentences.

    World Book Day

Thank you to all the hard you did for World Book Day, the children looked fantastic. We had a great time exploring the school on our treasure hunt. The school had raised a lot of money and would like to say thank you for collecting sponsorship.

    Change to PE

This term our PE days will be Tuesday for cricket with our Chance to Shine cricket coach, Ryan. This is a great opportunity to build a love for cricket and get involved in your local clubs. Brockenhurst has a wonderful club and if your children enjoy it, sign them up.

Swimming is still on Thursdays as per usual.

     Book Change

Book change will be back on Fridays. As always bring your book in and reading diary every day as we  check them regularly at school.

  • DT Next Week and a trial rugby session in Year 3

    Published 11/02/22, by Admin

Next week, we are making wallets/purses. We would like children to bring in material that they think would make a good purse (old t-shirts etc). We will be hand stitching them, so they must be able to get needles through them. If you have any buttons to go along with them, that would also be a great addition.

We will also have an extra trial session of Rippa Rugby on Monday. So bring your PE kits.

English: we have been looking at the poetry book 'A Kid In My Class', by Rachel Rooney. It is a wonderful book, that is well illustrated, and I would recommend parents picking up a copy if they get the opportunity.

In Maths, we have been focusing on 2D shapes, parallel and perpendicular lines. If you would like to  make comparisons at home, this would help reinforce students learning.

    Reminders:

Parent teacher meetings are happening next Tuesday and Thursday.

    Swimming on Thursday.

    Library change on Monday.

    Book change on Wednesday.

Do not forget swimming costumes and towels tomorrow. There is a slight change  in that the Year 5 and 6s will be joining the Year 3s for their lessons and the Year 4s will be on their own for lessons.

Last week the children all showed great bravery as some of them had not been in the water for a couple of years.  This week the lessons start and so does the fun.

    Maths Olympics

This is a house sports events, where children run around an obstacle course to collect maths questions and return to their team to solve them. Year groups work together in their houses (Years 3+4). The skills that we worked on included perseverance, encouraging others, praising others and helping them.

    Winchester Science Centre Trip

Thank you to all those who have returned their reply slips. I'll let parents who have offered to help know as soon as I can.

    In Lessons

We have completed our 3, 4 and 8 timetables. But keep practising on TT Rock Stars.  We have started learning about unit fractions.  You can ask your children about numerators and denominators, and hopefully they will be able to reply with the correct part of the fraction they are.

    This Week

The children were in shock and Mr Wilcox and Mrs Cooper went on strike over the sharpness of pencils and the wonky sheets being stuck into books. This later led onto the introduction of the protest book, The Day the Crayons Quit.  This is a lovely book that we will be focussing on over the next few weeks.

In Maths the children have been learning about adding money.

In Geography, we started our new topic Sustainability. Thinking about how we can live better on our planet.

    Reminders

    Monday - Library change

    Thursday and Friday - PE

    Friday - book change.
