We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 3

Friday Blog - Friday  14th November

Good afternoon everyone,

The highlight of our week was definitely our trip to the Southampton City Art Gallery. We all had such a fantastic time. The gallery is undergoing extensive renovations at the moment and is closed to the general public, which means that we had the place to ourselves. We were shown around 3 rooms, which are showing different sculptures at the moment – all the paintings have been put away to be kept safe. We enjoyed the head room, the body room and then the landscape room.

We looked at one sculpture more carefully than others and sketched the shape of it. From this the children either sketched a landscape of a seascape, thinking carefully about what to draw in the fore, mid and background of their sketches.

Back in the workroom, we firstly drew our sketches onto our paper then added colour using watercolours. The finished works of art look amazing. Your child should have come with theirs today, but you can view everyone’s in the gallery section.

The children were brilliantly behaved throughout the day and Kate, our guide and art teacher, was very impressed by their creative ideas, enthusiasm and organisational skills – they were fab at tidying up at the end!

Can I also say thank you for all your kind wishes and gifts for my birthday - they were very much appreciated!

Have a great weekend,

Clare
