    Year 4 Sports Day Blog

What a fantastic Sports Day Year 4 had! The field was full of determination, teamwork and unforgettable moments from start to finish.

There were true acts of heroism throughout the day: sprained ankles battled through with courage, brave runners picked themselves up after trips during the sprints, and the egg and spoon race became a dramatic test of do or die determination! Through every race and challenge, the children showed incredible resilience and refused to give up.

What impressed us most was not simply who crossed the finish line first, but the way Year 4 supported one another. Children cheered for their friends, helped each other up, encouraged those who were finding things difficult and celebrated each other's successes. It was wonderful to see such kindness and teamwork shining through.

While Sports Day naturally had winners and losers in individual events, every member of Year 4 achieved something special. Every child climbed their own mountain and reached the top in their own way — whether that meant showing bravery, perseverance, determination or simply giving something their very best effort.

We could not be prouder of Year 4 and the attitude they showed throughout the day. They were all champions.

This week in Year 4, we have continued to work incredibly hard, showing fantastic focus and enthusiasm across all areas of learning.

    English

In English this week, we have started planning our exciting leaflets all about British wildflowers. The children have been carefully selecting powerful vocabulary, interesting sentence openers and thoughtful ideas to help them create wonderful, informative leaflets next week. We are looking forward to seeing their creativity shine through.

    Maths

In Maths, we have been focusing on money. We began by thinking about presents we might like to buy and estimating how much these items may cost. From there, we calculated different amounts, compared pounds and pence, and practised estimating answers. The children have shown great enthusiasm and have been developing valuable real-life mathematical skills.

    PE

With Sports Day quickly approaching next Thursday, our PE lessons have been full of energy and determination. We have been practising our sprinting skills and pushing ourselves to improve. The children have worked incredibly hard and may well be feeling a little sore over the weekend after all their fantastic effort!

    Important Reminder

A polite reminder to parents and carers that children should not bring fidget toys into school. Unfortunately, some have recently become damaged or popped, creating large messes in the classroom. We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a focused and tidy learning environment.

We are so proud of Year 4’s continued perseverance, positivity and dedication, and we cannot wait for another exciting week ahead.

    Year 4 Weekly Blog

This week in Year 4, we have been incredibly busy and proud of how focused and engaged the children have been across all subjects.

    Maths

In Maths, we have been comparing decimals with fractions, particularly focusing on ¼ and ¾. The children have also been developing their understanding of rounding numbers to the nearest integer. We have been so impressed with their enthusiasm and determination during these lessons, with everyone showing fantastic concentration and a real eagerness to learn.

    PE

In PE, we have been preparing for Sports Day as well as learning the exciting game of handball. While there were a few bumps and knocks along the way, the children showed excellent resilience and teamwork throughout. Their positive attitudes and perseverance have been wonderful to see.

    Geography

Our Geography lessons have focused on the New Forest and how it has changed over time. The children have enjoyed exploring its history and learning about how both natural processes and human activity have shaped this special area.

    English

In English, we have been studying The Lost Words. We have spent time exploring the beautiful language and imagery within the book, thinking carefully about the author’s word choices and how they create such vivid descriptions.

    Extra Maths Challenge

A particular highlight this week has been the children’s growing enthusiasm for our murder mystery maths challenges! These activities have become a class favourite, encouraging pupils to stretch their mathematical thinking while also teaching them the importance of perseverance. The children are learning that it is perfectly okay not to get the right answer immediately, and that resilience and determination are key parts of learning.

We are so proud of all the hard work Year 4 have shown this week and look forward to another exciting week ahead!

We have also been enjoying learning our 6 times table song in class — please see the link below to practise at home.
