Summer 1 Week 4

Year 4 Weekly Blog
This week in Year 4, we have been incredibly busy and proud of how focused and engaged the children have been across all subjects.
Maths
In Maths, we have been comparing decimals with fractions, particularly focusing on ¼ and ¾. The children have also been developing their understanding of rounding numbers to the nearest integer. We have been so impressed with their enthusiasm and determination during these lessons, with everyone showing fantastic concentration and a real eagerness to learn.
PE
In PE, we have been preparing for Sports Day as well as learning the exciting game of handball. While there were a few bumps and knocks along the way, the children showed excellent resilience and teamwork throughout. Their positive attitudes and perseverance have been wonderful to see.
Geography
Our Geography lessons have focused on the New Forest and how it has changed over time. The children have enjoyed exploring its history and learning about how both natural processes and human activity have shaped this special area.
English
In English, we have been studying The Lost Words. We have spent time exploring the beautiful language and imagery within the book, thinking carefully about the author’s word choices and how they create such vivid descriptions.
Extra Maths Challenge
A particular highlight this week has been the children’s growing enthusiasm for our murder mystery maths challenges! These activities have become a class favourite, encouraging pupils to stretch their mathematical thinking while also teaching them the importance of perseverance. The children are learning that it is perfectly okay not to get the right answer immediately, and that resilience and determination are key parts of learning.
We are so proud of all the hard work Year 4 have shown this week and look forward to another exciting week ahead!
We have also been enjoying learning our 6 times table song in class — please see the link below to practise at home.
