Year 4

Friday Blog - Friday 25th September
We’ve had another lovely week in Year 4! The children are really beginning to flourish and are becoming so confident with our class routines. They have really impressed me with how well they have settled in and it’s been lovely to see them becoming more comfortable and confident each week.
In Guided Reading, we have been working hard on our book What a Waste. We’ve had lots of interesting discussions about our planet, the impact we have on it and the different things we can do to help look after our environment.
In English this week, we have been busy planning, writing and editing our final piece for our Leon and the Place Between unit. The children have blown me away with their creative ideas, hard work and fantastic use of language. We’ve seen lots of alliteration, similes and expanded noun phrases – and even some metaphors! I have absolutely loved reading their imaginative descriptions of their own ‘Place Between’.
We are also coming to the end of our Place Value topic in Maths and have been learning how to round numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000. This is a completely new concept for the children in Year 4, and I have been so proud of how well they have tackled it. We will continue to practise rounding regularly in our morning starters to keep it fresh in their minds and build their confidence.
This afternoon, we had a lovely Art lesson experimenting with mixing paints and trying out different brush techniques. This is all in preparation for next week, when the children will use these skills to paint an Andy Goldsworthy sculpture. We then finished our Friday with Golden Time, listening to our Year 4 class playlist and enjoying some very well-deserved downtime together!
A huge thank you for all of the Harvest Festival donations we have received so far! We now have a table FULL of things to take to church on Wednesday to donate to New Forest Basics Bank. I know they will be incredibly grateful for your generosity and support.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend!
Ella
