We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 4

Friday Blog - Friday 9th October

Happy Friday!

It’s been a busy week in Year 4 with lots of new learning (and a little bit of Christmas thrown in too, although it seems VERY early!)

In Maths, we have moved on to our new topic of Addition and Subtraction. This week, we have been tackling column addition and subtraction with two 4-digit numbers, including calculations with multiple exchanges. This has definitely been a challenge, but the children have really impressed me with their hard work and are absolutely smashing it! We will be spending lots more time practising this in school as it is such an important skill, but it would be great if the children could have a little go at home too. Even just a few calculations here and there would be really helpful. Thanks in advance.

Our new English unit is based on the book The Greenling, which has already sparked some interesting conversations in the classroom. The children will eventually be writing their own persuasive speeches, arguing whether the Greenling should stay or go. To help us prepare, we have been listening to some famous speeches and thinking carefully about what makes them so effective. We’ve also had a go at writing our own rhetorical questions, with the children coming up with some very convincing arguments already!

We needed to complete our Christmas cards this week, so we spent some time working on these. They have put lots of effort into their artwork and produced some really beautiful photos. You should all have received an order form explaining how to order cards and other goodies featuring your child's design. If you need another form, please let me know as I do have some spares.

And of course, we have the school disco tonight! I know lots of the children have been looking forward to it, so I'm sure there will be plenty of excitement (and some tired legs!) by the end of the evening.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
