Year 4

Friday Blog - Friday 16th October
Another week has flown by in Year 4 and I have been feeling particularly proud of the children this week!
In Maths, we have continued working on column subtraction, focusing on some much trickier calculations involving exchanging across a zero. This is a really challenging concept, but they have all been absolutely smashing it! It has been so lovely to see those little lightbulb moments when something finally clicks, especially with something that seemed so difficult at first. Their confidence is growing every day and I couldn’t be prouder of how hard they have been working!
In English, we have been busy planning our persuasive speeches about The Greenling. The children have been thinking carefully about their arguments and deciding whether they believe the Greenling should be allowed to stay or whether he needs to go! We will be writing our speeches on Monday, which they are all very excited about. I think they are even more excited about the opportunity to perform some of them to the class and see if they can persuade their audience to agree with them! I can’t wait to hear what they come up with.
We have also introduced something new to our classroom this week – Our class reward jar! The children can earn stars for showing fantastic teamwork, making good choices and working hard together. Once we reach 25 stars, the whole class will earn a special reward. They have absolutely loved working towards this and it’s been lovely to see them encouraging each other to earn more stars. Fingers crossed it won’t be too long until our first class treat!
As you all know, we have Parents’ Evening coming up on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. I’m really looking forward to catching up with you all and sharing how they have been getting on in Year 4 so far!
I hope you all have a beautiful weekend!
Ella
