This week, Year 5 enjoyed an exciting trip to the New Forest Heritage Centre. We travelled by public bus and spent the day learning more about the fascinating history and geography of the New Forest. The children explored how the area has changed over time and discovered why it remains such a special and unique place today.
One of the highlights of the week came after our visit, when the school received a phone call from a member of the public who wanted to praise the behaviour of our students while travelling on the bus. This was wonderful to hear and is a real credit to the children. They represented the school brilliantly with their politeness, respect and maturity. We are incredibly proud of them and it shows what fantastic ambassadors they are for Brockenhurst Primary School.
Back at school, we have also been busy preparing for the school production. The children have been working hard to learn their songs and are becoming more confident with every rehearsal. While our dance moves may still need a little polishing, the quality of the singing has been absolutely wonderful. We are looking forward to continuing our rehearsals and seeing the performance come together over the coming weeks.
Well done, Year 5, for another fantastic week!

Dear parents and carers,
In English, we have been writing our own journey narratives inspired by our class book, Wild is the Wind. The children have been focusing on using direct speech, parenthesis, and relative clauses to improve their writing. We have also seen some fantastic examples of creative vocabulary, which has made their stories even more engaging and imaginative.
In Maths, the class has been working through equivalents between fractions and decimals. This has required careful thinking and perseverance, and the children have been making excellent progress.
In Guided Reading, we have started our new class book, The War of the Worlds. The children are already exploring challenging vocabulary and discovering interesting writing techniques within the text.
In PE, we are practising hard for Sports Day, which is coming up soon on the 21st of May. The children have been showing great enthusiasm and determination as they prepare.
In Geography, we have continued our comparisons between the Lake District and the New Forest. This week, we explored tourist brochures to discover interesting facts about both regions and deepen our understanding of their similarities and differences.
In art, we have been continuing our work in Islamic art. This week we started looking at the arabesque style and started to create our own designs using only pencils.
It has been another exciting and productive week in Year 5, full of creativity, determination, and excellent learning.
Have a great weekend.
