    Dear Parents and children,

Welcome to your Y5 Home Learning area!

Each week day, the blog will be updated with new home learning activities appropriate to Y5.

Daily, children should spend time doing Times Tables Rockstars - 15 mins and reading - 15 mins.  In addition to this, children will be set daily maths and literacy.

Work will also be set weekly to cover history, science and spelling expectations.

We strongly recommend establishing a home learning routine so children benefit from the activities that are set.

Answers for the daily maths activities will be released on to the blog after 4pm each day.

The children are bringing home a set of comprehension exercises.  We would like them to complete 2 per week.  The answers will be posted on the blog the following week.

We will really miss the interaction and smiling faces of your children each day and hope that we will see you very soon.

    Best wishes,

    Julie Edwards and Emma Lever

A busy couple of days at the end of the week with our trip yesterday and Sports Relief today.

A great day was had yesterday and showers were avoided.  The guides at New Forest Wildlife Park shared with us a wealth of knowledge about various animals native and non-native to our country.  The children asked lots of interesting questions and we found out lots more about adaptations and animal behaviours.  The otters were definitely a hit as were the harvest mice.  The guides were very impressed with the class and their knowledge - particularly the identification of an emu egg!

It's been lovely to see Mrs Edwards around school and I know we are all very pleased to see her back.

    Have a lovely weekend.

    Y5 team.

A fantastic afternoon's learning and exploring thanks to Dave Carotti, who came in to school and showed the children some amazing and truly awe-inspiring scientific light experiments.

The children got to use lasers, prisms, optical cables and polarised filters to help them explore their knowledge and understanding of light. They even got to look at some electronic sunglasses.  Some great science questions were asked and lots of 'what happens if' questions were asked  and explored.

Maths homework this week is Mathletics as normal - great to see some creative and interesting ideas for last week's train journey homework.  Well done to all those that managed to complete.

    Enjoy your weekend.

    Dear parents,

We had a wonderful trip to Lime Wood on Tuesday. Luke Holder (the Executive Chef) gave a lot of his time and attention to the children throughout the morning- he was lovely with them. We saw the greenhouses, The Smokery and The Cookery school. The children worked as a production line to make arancini, which they also got to try.

We have also been investigating ible/able suffixes, rounding in maths to 1,000,000 and creating a physical geography map of South America. The children are also trying to use the oil pastel techniques they have learnt to create a brand new tropical rainforest plant.

In Science today, we have been investigating reflection and have created periscopes to aid us in our understanding.  The children have enjoyed using and experimenting with torches and mirrors and trying to make their beams of light reflect in different places around the room.

Lots of fun was had first thing as we joined Joe Wicks in a live BBC dance to raise support and awareness of Children In Need today.

    Have a lovely weekend,

    Year 5 team.
