We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 5 Blog

Week beginning 24.02.25

Dear parents & carers,

We hope you and your children had a lovely half-term. As always in Year 5 we are back to the business of learning straight away.

We have started a new unit-KICK- for reading, which hooks the children in to an excellent novel about cultural differences. For writing, our unit focuses on the true story of Henry ‘Box’ Brown who emailed himself to freedom in a wooden crate.

In maths we took a deep breath and started teaching the children long multiplication- they have responded to the lessons fabulously well.

Our topic of ‘Salvation’ for RE enabled the children to think on a personal level of experiences in their lifetime- many of these were shared and covered a breadth of scenarios.

In D&T we enjoyed our first lesson from the representatives of The Pig in Brockenhurst. The children learnt about the importance of appreciating food. They used  their 5 senses to experience the 5 main tastes i.e. bitter, sour, sweet, salty and umami. They then used their senses to taste a variety of foods.

 Enjoy your weekend.
