Year 5 Blog

Week beginning 03.03.25
Dear parents and carers,
World Book Day on Thursday was a real highlight of the year. It was so special to see the children dressed up in PJ's or comfy clothes and enjoying and sharing so many wonderful books. It really demonstrated just how brilliant it is to get lost in a book and share this with others. All the different reading activities put on by the teachers were so thoughtful and really inspiring. I wish we could have more days like it!
This week in maths we have been problem-solving with multiplication and then moved onto short division. The children showed a really solid understanding and confidently used a formal method to complete the questions, including being able to problem-solve.
In writing, the children were introduced to our text driver, Henry's Freedom Box, and looked at Henry's emotions at different parts of the story. Based on this learning, the children then wrote Tanka poems (a traditional Japanese poetry) using a range of emotive vocabulary. We were so impressed with their thoughtfulness and insightful language.
In PE we started our Yoga unit - a particular favourite of Mrs Erdbeer! Some children found it a struggle to reach their toes!
Another highlight of the week was our visit from The Pig. This week the children learnt knife skills, more about safety, health and nutrition and then finally put this altogether to make a delicious salad, which I hope they enjoyed with you at home. What a treat!
Have a great weekend.
