Year 5 Blog

Week beginning 28.5.25
Dear parents and carers,
Please can I remind you that children require a water bottle in school every day.
This week we have continued our unit on tenths, hundredths and are now on thousandths: representing them in decimal and fraction form.
The children are thoroughly enjoying our poetry unit where we analyse and create poetry in response to my all-time favourite book- LOVE THAT DOG!
Y5 had a session with Brockenhurst College students on Thursday and enjoyed the extra session. They were well-behaved and respectful.
Science:This week we continued investigating forces that oppose motion, and levers. Y5 used this knowledge to make catapults with lolly sticks, elastic bands and a rather large number of mini marshmallows. We proved that levers allow a smaller force to have a greater effect as marshmallows went flying through the sky above the playground!
Computing:Y5 have started their unit on 3D modelling and designing, using Tinker Cad and created some impressive mazes.
Enjoy your weekend,
The Y5 Team
